One of the five Bangladeshis, injured in an attack by the Indian Border Security Force members in Lalmonirhat's Aditmari on Thursday night, has died at a hospital.

Abdur Rahim, 33, son of Abul Kashem of Chowratari village under Durgapur, died around 7am on Friday at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Another bullet-hit cattle trader Sultan Mia, 34, of the same area is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A commander-level meeting was held between the two border forces in Aditmari Friday afternoon when the BSF officials promised to investigate the matter.

Locals said that Rahim and Sultan had gone near the border around 9:30pm on Thursday to bring four cows smuggled by some Indian cattle traders. Five-six BSF men from Barther Bari camp entered Bangladesh territory and opened fire on them indiscriminately leaving them injured.

As the duo shouted for help, locals came and cordoned off the BSF men. But they beat up three Bangladeshis – Saju Mia, Sumon and Rabeya, and fled the scene with the cattle.

All the five were first taken to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex. Later Rahim and Sultan were shifted to Rangpur as their condition deteriorated.

Wife of the deceased Bangladeshi filed a case with a Joypurhat court on September 22 accusing 30 BSF members of Charli camp of Durgapur 75 Battalion of BSF in India.
