'Local criminals involved with Bandarban abduction'

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said local criminal groups are involved with the abduction of two tourists and their guide who went missing in Bandarban.

He made the statement while addressing a press conference at the secretariat on Thursday afternoon.

Asaduzzaman said: “In the primary investigation we have found out that the local criminals are involved with the abduction.”

“They will soon be rescued. Army officials are working to rescue them,” the minister added. 

An armed separatist rebel group of Myanmar demanded Tk50 lakh ransom for the two tourists and their guide on Wednesday.

Passing Mro, brother of the missing guide Mangsai Mro, told the Dhaka Tribune that the local commander of the Arakan Liberation Party (ALP) had called him and asked for the ransom.

They went missing in Bandarban on Saturday.
