Sheikh Hasina: No one can destabilise Bangladesh

Update : 07 Oct 2015, 08:00 PM

Claiming that a vested quarter is behind the recent killing of two foreign nationals, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina affirmed that no one would be able to destabilise the country by carrying out such acts.

“Bangladesh has consolidated its position on the international stage in such a way that no one will be able to destabilise the country with such incidents,” she said while addressing the inaugural function of the newly-built academic building (Sheikh Hasina Complex) of Defence Services Command and Staff College at its auditorium in Mirpur Cantonment.

The prime minister also urged all, including the members of the Armed Forces, to remain alert so that no one would be able to deter the country’s pace of development.

Referring to the recent killings of two foreign nationals, Hasina said: “We have already condemned the killing and taken steps to hunt down those involved in the incidents and ensure their punishment.”

The prime minister said whenever Bangladesh achieves something and is internationally acclaimed, such incident is unleashed to tarnish the country’s image.

Mentioning that the country has to tackle terrorism, militancy and conspiracy every now and then, Hasina said: “We have to spend energy and working hours on tackling conspiracies… if we did not have to do that, it would be possible to achieve more development and prosperity.”

Due to the addition of new dimension to the present global security situation, the prime minister said the role and scope of duty of the Armed Forces has increased a lot. “So, in the changing context, necessary revision and addition of newer subjects to the academic and training programmes of the Armed Forces are needed.”

At the function, keys to some 74 flats at Mirpur DOHS were handed over to the families of 68 martyred members of armed forces at 2009 Peelkhana Carnage, martyred members of UN peace keeping missions and that of those killed in other accidents.
