Shahadat's wife sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent cricketer Shahdat Hossain's wife to jail in a case filed for torturing their domestic help.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Yunus Khan passed the order on Sunday afternoon, rejecting the remand and bail petitions.

Mirpur Model police station OC (investigation) Shafikur Islam filed a petition seeking five days of police remand after producing Jesmin Jahan Nitto before the court. On the other hand, Nitto's counsel Kazi Mohammad Nazibullah Hiro filed a bail petition.

The court in its order said that as Nitto has to breastfeed her nine-month-old baby, she cannot be taken on remand for interrogation.

The court also said the investigation officer of the case can quiz Nitto three days within five working days at the jail gate.

Nitto's counsel informed the court that Shahadat would surrender before the court on Monday.

On September 7, journalist Khandaker Mojammel Hossain filed a case against the couple with Mirpur model police station on charge of torturing their domestic help Happy.

Happy, daughter of Aroz Ali of Jamalpur, district was rescued from Pallabi in the capital on September 6 with injuries in her body. In the morning, she managed to come out of Shahadat’s house.

But soon after the case, the couple went into hiding. Police are yet to arrest Shahadat in connection with the case.

Following the recording, the magistrate sent the 10-year-old girl back to the One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
