PM: Murders committed to tarnish country’s image

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the recent murders of the foreign nationals had been staged by a vested quarter to tarnish the country’s image to the world.

She made the remarks at the Sylhet Osmani International Airport during her brief stay yesterday afternoon on her way back to Dhaka from the USA.

“When the country is on track to gain importance to other nations, a vested interest has been staging some unpleasant incidents in the country to tarnish the country’s dignity.

“The countrymen and party [Awami League] activists should stay alert about the conspirators,” the prime minister was quoted as saying by former Sylhet City Corporation mayor and ruling party leader Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran.

Sylhet city unit Awami League leader Kamran told these to reporters following a meeting with the PM at the VIP Lounge of Osmani Airport.

Kamran also said that the PM advised them to publicise the ongoing development activities of the government.

She dedicated her recent awards – Champions of the Earth and ICT Sustainable Development – to the country’s people.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned home this morning, wrapping up an eight-day official visit to the USA to attend the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the prime minister and her entourage landed at the Sylhet airport at 11:40am where she made a one-hour stopover before reaching Dhaka airport.

She arrived at her official residence Gonobhobon about an hour after reaching the Shahjalal airport in Dhaka at 1pm.

Thousands of people welcomed the PM, standing on the sides of the the road from airport to Gonobhobon, reports BSS.

Local Awami League leaders and activists also greeted the PM, who left the country for attending the UNGA assembly on September 24.
