Investigators: Professional killers shot Tavella

Update : 03 Oct 2015, 07:24 PM

Investigators said the killers who shot Italian citizen Cesare Tavella to death were professional.

The killers used weapons that are mostly used by professional killers, they said.

They, however, are yet to make any breakthrough in the case.

A high official of the Detective Branch (DB) police told the Dhaka Tribune that the murderer who shot Tavella did not miss his target. It is very difficult for general people.

Many may say that professional killers generally shoot in the upper portion of the body and never do that from behind. But the fact is that for anyone firing three shots consecutively is very difficult, even for the trained law enforcers.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal too yesterday echoed the view of the investigators.

He said professional killers were carrying out the murders.

Earlier, investigators said they were now focusing more on Tavella’s personal and professional life other than militancy and third-party involvement to embarrass the government.

Detective Branch’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Muhfuzul Islam said no progress had yet been made in the case.

They were yet to receive forensic report. They also did not receive court order for conducting basaltic report, he added.

A DB sources said they were sitting with the eyewitnesses, ICCO Corporation officials, Tavella’s team mates and were visiting the spot to make a breakthrough in the case.

He said detectives had gathered some information and were verifying them.

On Monday evening, three unidentified assailants shot CCO Corporation PROOFS project Manager Tavella at Gulshan 2 while he was returning home after finishing his regular work. He later died at a hospital.

Since the murder took place, the DB and Rapid Action Battalion have been investigating the case with high priority since it coincided with the security alerts by some countries for their citizens living in Bangladesh.

Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said the murders of foreigners in the country were planned to create unrest.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was speaking at a price-giving ceremony at a school in Moghbazar area.

The killers and those behind them wanted to damage the government’s image too to the outside world, he added.

He assured the foreigners of increased security measure in the country to protect them.

About the presence of Islamic State militants in the country he said there was no IS member in the country.
