Six people, including a woman and her son, were killed and another 20 injured in a fatal accident in Habiganj on Friday night.
Four of the dead could be identified – Bangladesh Army’s lance corporal Abu Sayeed, 30, Mursheda Begum, 40, wife of Sylhet Awami League Deputy Publicity Secretary Mostak Ahmed Palash, her son Mehedi, 4, and Arif Miah, 30, who worked at a pharmaceutical firm.
Police said the accident took place when a bus of Hanif Paribahan rammed into a brick-laden stationary truck at Jalalpur Bazar area in Nabiganj upazila, leaving the bus wrecked.
The injured, who were in a critical condition, were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College.
Traffic on Dhaka-Sylhet highway came to a halt after the accident and resumed after around two hours.
Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur Highway police station Nurunnabi Sarker said three victims succumbed to injuries on the scene while the rest died in hospital.
