PM’s return to be marked with mass reception

Update : 02 Oct 2015, 08:06 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to return home today following her eight-day official visit to the US where she attended the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The 14-party alliance has planned a mass reception where people would line up the streets from the Dhaka airport to Ganabhaban to welcome back the prime minister, who is scheduled to arrive around 1:30pm.

A record number of people are expected to show up for the mass reception of Hasina, who received the “Champions of the Earth” award in New York in recognition of Bangladesh’s initiatives to combat climate change effects.

Health Minister Mohammed Nasim, also the spokesperson for the alliance, at a press conference yesterday said: “The achievement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is not only for her, but it also for all the people of the country and the nation. So we hope people at every level of occupations, religion, race and political ideologies will join the reception programme.”

Replying to a query, he said that a committee was formed to ensure that the mass reception would not cause any distress to Dhaka dwellers.
