Grameenphone will work to make “Project Everyone” a success in Bangladesh by supporting the United Nations in spreading the word on the 17 Global Sustainable Development Goals.
With Grameenphone’s own vision of empowering societies, its “Internet for All” ambition and its sustainability initiatives, “will link both the organisations’ campaigns to accelerate the making of empowered and sustainable societies in the country,” the operator said in a statement yesterday.
Outlining the steps taken to promote the goals, Grameenphone’s Head of Corporate Responsibility Debashis Roy said: “we are building this awareness campaign as part of Telenor’s commitment to support the UN in all countries it has operations.”
The UN has sought the services of mobile operations across the globe in an attempt to reach all 7bn of the global population.
Grameenphone is already undertaking various endeavours to make the project a success, through initiatives like sending SMS to its customers, social media campaigns through Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, Intranet article, desktop wallpapers, profiling at GP House, Customer Service Center at Nitol Niloy Tower, and all regional offices.
The UN has launched the Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, on September 25.
The Global Goals are a series of ambitious targets to end extreme poverty and tackle climate change by 2030. Once achieved, they will ensure the health, safety and future of the planet for everyone.
Supported by the UN, the Project Everyone is an initiative that aims to create a multi-channel global campaign - TV, radio, print, web, social media, mobile etc. - over 7 days starting from September 25 with the aim of making “everyone” on the planet aware of the Global Goals (#TellEveryone).
The project’s founding team includes UNICEF, United Nations Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wikipedia, Save the Children, Google, Wikipedia, Virgin, Unilever and Standard Chartered Bank.
