'Govt to declare Dec 1 as Freedom Fighter Day'

December 1, the first day of the month of victory, will be declared as National Freedom Fighter Day to spread the spirit of the Liberation War among the new generation, Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Huq has said. He made the disclosure while speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting organised by Muktijuddher Chetana Bastabayan Mancha at the National Press Club auditorium in Dhaka on Thursday, reports BSS. Muktijuddher Chetana Bastabayan Mancha Chairman and Shipping Minister M Shajahan Khan presided over the discussion meeting to press the demand for declaration of 1st December as National Freedom Fighter Day. Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, Major (Retd) Wakar Hassan, Ismat Qadir Gama, Kabir Ahmad Khan, Nazrul Islam Bachchu and journalist Sazzad Hossain also took part in the discussion, among others. Mozammel Huq said scrutiny of all freedom fighters will begin at the upazila level in January and the process will take place on every Saturday, he added. Food Minister Quamrul Islam demanded scrapping the Bir Uttam gallantry title of Ziaur Rahman, saying that he had rehabilitated the defeated forces of the Liberation War and he used to work for Pakistani in different ways during the Liberation War. Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said the Muktijuddher Chetana Bastabayan Mancha is working to eliminate the defeated forces of 1971, containing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the symbol of unity. The shipping minister also took part in a human chain in front of National Press Club to press for declaration of 1st December as National Freedom Fighter Day.
