Medical colleges admission seekers yesterday demonstrated at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) demanding enrolment be cancelled
Over a hundred students lay down in a DMC administrative building corridor at 12pm, while enrolment was in progress.
Protesters began at the Central Shaheed Minar at 10:30am, moved to the National Press Club and then moved to DMC, said Tamanna Sultana, an admission seeker and protester.
Police later dispersed the crowd.
“At that time, protesting students and police chased each other. Several students were beaten by police, who threatened to arrest us,” Tamanna said.
However Shahbagh police station OC Abu Bakar Siddique said: “When the protesters took position at the medical college, we stopped them from blocking the path. There were no clashes between us and them.”
Meanwhile, Dr Hasanur Rahman Khan, provost of Fazle Rabbi Dormitory at the DMC, said the admission process would continue for the week, unless the government issued a directive to stop it.
