Update : 29 Sep 2015, 09:01 AM

Slain Italian citizen Cesare Tavella received three bullets during Monday's shooting by unidentified assailants, doctors have said.

Assistant Professor Dr Kazi Mohammad Abu Shama, head of the forensic medicine department of Dhaka Medical College, conducted the post-mortem examination on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the bullets passed through Tavella's left shoulder while another through his back by creating exit wounds. The third one remained inside his chest and was removed by the doctor during autopsy.

His body was kept at the DMC mortuary, Gulshan police Sub-Inspector Sabbir Rahman said.

Cesare Tavella was attacked by three unidentified assailants, who came on a motorcycle, around 6:15pm on Monday near road 90 of the capital’s Gulshan 2. A car driver took him to United Hospital where the duty doctors pronounced him dead.

Tavella, 50, was a project manager at the Netherlands-based development organisation ICCO Cooperation.

International militant group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the killing, according to Site Intelligence Group, a website that tracks online activity of Jihadi organisations.
