The National Board of Revenue has asked all its field-level officials under customs and VAT wings not to stay off their respective offices without prior approval from top officials as the authorities found it necessary for achieving the revenue target in the current fiscal year.
The tax authorities recently issued an order to its field offices asking them to be regular in the offices for smooth functioning of revenue collection for the FY2015-16.
Signed by NBR member (customs and vat administration) Sultan M Iqbal, the order were sent to all NBR members and field-level offices to follow the instructions with immediate effect.
The NBR took the decision following allegations that the divisional chiefs under both the wings remained absent in offices and stayed in Dhaka without any prior permission, which had a negative impact on the disciplinary system and the revenue collection works.
With its five-point orders, the NBR has asked the commissioners and all officials under field offices not to remain away off their offices until the end of fiscal year.
In case of emergency, the field-level officials will have to take permission directly from the NBR chairman. Only if the chairman is unavailable, the regulatory officials concerned may approve the leave applications.
Except mandatory meetings and emergencies, the NBR members were requested not to invite any commissioner or field-level official to headquarters for attending meetings. If required, the members can do so with approval from the NBR chief.
