President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed shock at the loss of lives in a stampede at Mina.
The president and the premier sent separate messages to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia expressing deep sorrow on Thursday afternoon, BSS reported.
"I am deeply saddened and shocked learning about the tragic demise of 220 and injury of more than 400 Hajj pilgrims at Mina in a stampede," the President said in the message sent to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

"I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to Your Majesty, and through you to the bereaved family members and the injured people from different countries," he added.
In a condolence message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now in New York to join the 70th United Nations General Assembly, prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved families.

She also wished early recovery of the injured and asked the authorities concerned to enquire about the Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims.
At least 453 people were killed in the stampede during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia's civil defence service said, as the death toll from the tragedy continued to rise.
