Update : 23 Sep 2015, 05:19 AM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has left Dhaka for New York on an eight-day official visit to the United States to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and members of her entourage took off from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here at 10am on Wednesday, reports BSS.

On her way to New York, the prime minister will make a nearly three-hour stopover at the Heathrow International Airport in London.

From the British capital, she will fly to New York by a British Airways flight that will land at John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport at 10pm (New York time).

After a warm reception at the JFK Airport, the prime minister will straight drive to Hotel Waldorf Astoria New York through a ceremonial motorcade. She will stay at the hotel during her visit to the USA.

This year's UNGA is being considered as very important for Bangladesh as the "Champions of the Earth", the highest environment-related award of the UN, and the "ICTs in Sustainable Development Award" of the International Telecommunication Union would be handed over to the Bangladesh premier.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and PM's Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury were present at the airport to see the prime minister off.
