Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina flies to New York today on a nine-day tour to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly.
She will give a number of speeches at different events, hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Xinping, Dutch PM Mark Rutte and Nepalese PM Sushil Koirala.
She will co-chair two events – one on peacekeeping operations hosted by US President Barack Obama and the other on sustainable economic growth hosted by Belgian PM Charles Michels.
She will lead a delegation of 103 members. In addition to that, a business delegation of 118 members will accompany her.
Foreign minister, finance minister, expatriate welfare and overseas employment minister, prime minister’s economical and international affairs advisers, state minister for women and children, and state minister for foreign affairs are included in the delegation.
She will receive Champions of the Earth award for her contribution towards climate change at the session.
Hasina will also receive another award from International Telecommunication Union for digital development.
The 70th UNGA session is very important as the Millennium Development Goals will come to an end while the Sustainable Development Goals would be adopted in this session.
The prime minister is scheduled to give speech at the post-2015 development agenda summit, UNGA general debate, women empowerment summit and fighting violent extremism summit.
The prime minister will deliver her speech in Bengali at the general debate on September 28.
