BIWTC starts 10-day Eid special service

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) yesterday started a 10-day Eid special steamer services for home-bound passengers.

The special service will continue till September 30 with regular service, said Azmol Hossain, deputy general manager (commercial/ passenger), Barisal BIWTA. 

The BIWTC sources said seven vessels, including four peddle wheel steamers PS Mahsud, PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Turn, and three screw wheel motor vessels MV Madhumoti, MV Bangali, MV Shela have been placed to carry passengers to their respective destinations connecting Chandpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Hularhut of Pirojpur and Morelganj of Bagerhaat under this special schedule, he said.

Syed Abul Kalam Azad, assistant general manager in-charge of the BIWTC Barisal station, said MV Shela would ply on Dhaka-Chandpur and Chandpur-Barisal routes.

Barisal and Narayanganj BIWTC stations have been asked  to provide special tug boats and piloting services and be prepared to face any emergency calls, he added.

“The passenger fare of BIWTC carriers would remain same on special trips as normal trips,” he said. 

Meanwhile, three coastal ships MV Monirul Huq, MV Abdul Matin and MV Baro-Awlia of BIWTC will operate from Chittagong under regular and Eid special services to connect different destinations under Hatiya and Sandwip from September 21 to September 30.

Additional ferry trips would also be activated on Paturia-Daulatdia, Mawa-Keorakandi, Chandpur - Shariatpur, Bhola-Lakshmipur and Laharhat-Bheduria river routes on occasion of Eid Ul Azha, BIWTC sources added.
