HC scraps writ challenging medical-dental admission test

Update : 21 Sep 2015, 06:33 PM

The High Court rejected a writ petition seeking the cancellation of the medical and dental admission test and demanding retake of the tests.

The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice JN Deb Choudhury passed the order yesterday.

“Now there is no legal bar on the admission of the students who have passed in the admission tests,” Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told journalists after the hearing.

Earlier at the hearing, while arguing for the state, Mahbubey said an investigation would be conducted regarding the allegations of question paper leak.

If any qualified student is found to have passed the test with the help of leaked questions, he or she will be disqualified for admission, the attorney general said.

He further argued that the results of thousands of qualified students could not be cancelled based on the allegation against some students adopting unfair means at the test.

Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond, who had filed the petition, told reporters that he would file another writ petition with the High Court regarding the matter. One can file fresh writ on the same issue with fresh grounds.

The Rapid Action Battalion recently arrested four persons for their suspected involvement in leaking question papers in this year’s medical and dental admission tests. The University Grants Commission also suspended one of their assistant directors on suspicion of the same crime.

Meanwhile, admission seekers have been demonstrating around the country alleging that the test questions had been leaked and the published results must be cancelled.

Test candidates in Gopalganj formed a human chain in front of Gopalganj Press Club yesterday afternoon, demanding immediate cancellation of the test, our Gopalganj correspondent reported.

Addressing the human chain, several students said the future of thousands of genuine students were at stake due to a corrupt circle who conducted the leaked question business.

“We demand that the prime minister scrap the latest test and order a retake of the test to give genuine students a fair chance to fight for a seat,” they said.

Similarly, test candidates in Kishoreganj formed a human chain in front of Islamia Super Market in Kishoreganj town yesterday demanding cancellation of the test results and retake of the test.

Carrying several placards and banners, they also brought out a procession and later went to the deputy commissioner’s office, where they submitted a memorandum regarding their demands before the deputy commissioner.
