RAB DG: Security tightened at cattle markets and banks

Update : 20 Sep 2015, 07:52 PM

Rapid Action Battalion has put in place a multi-layered security measure ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with special attention put on security of cattle markets and banks, the elite force’s chief has said.

RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed said several outposts would be set up at the capital’s exit points ahead of Eid, while patrolling would also be increased to maintain law and order and to prevent untoward incidents over the sale of cattle hide.

While inspecting security arrangements at the Kamalapur Railway Station yesterday morning, the RAB DG said plainclothes RAB members will ensure surveillance and additional striking forces would be prepared to tackle any situation during the festival.

The elite force has set up temporary camps at the cattle markets, Benazir said, adding that special security measures have been arranged for garment factory areas, shopping malls, bus stands and rail stations.

CCTV cameras will be installed at the National Eidgah, the RAB chief said. The bomb disposal unit and dog squad would also be active on the streets as part of the security measures.

Acting IGP on police extortion

Acting inspector general of police Mokhlesur Rahman has warned that any sort of extortion by police personnel will be met with a zero tolerance policy.

Addressing a press conference at the Police Headquarters yesterday, he also urged the cattle buyers not to pay any additional money or fees than the amount that had been fixed.

The police have already ensured constant patrolling of the roads, railways and waterways.

Replying to a query, Mokhlesur said the police would work with cattle traders and cattle market lessees to ensure security.
