Vehicles stretch from Kaliakoir to Mirzapur are moving at a snail's pace since the early hours of Sunday as a large number of cattle-loaded trucks are entering Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
A 20-kilometre long tailback was created on the highway in the morning. Later, the traffic condition eased around 11am.
"But traffic on the highway slowed down due to due to heavy rush of transports," said Gorhai Highway Police OC Md Humayun Kabir.
He said consistent rain since morning has added to the passengers' sufferings on the highway.
The busy Dhaka-Tangail highway has been experiencing gridlock since a couple of days as the home-bound people are leaving Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their dear ones.
