Two cases filed over Tangail firing

Two cases have been filed with Kalihati and Ghatail police stations over the firing on a protest against rape in Tangail which killed three people.

Over 300 people were made accused in the case filed with Kalihati police station while more than 400 were sued in the case with Ghatail police station.

The cases were filed by police on Saturday night.

However, none was arrested in connection with the incident, acting police super of Tangail Sanjoy Sarkar said.

Seven police members accused of firing on the protest were also withdrawn on Saturday. They were closed and attached to the Tangail Police Line Saturday.

A three-member probe committee headed by Additional DIG Md Alamgir Alam has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee was asked to submit its report within a week.

Besides, another three-member probe committee headed by an additional district magistrate was formed to look into the matter, sources at Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s office said.

Three people were killed in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Friday afternoon as police opened fire during a clash with locals protesting the brutal assault of a woman and her son.
