Cattle-laden truck snatched in city

Muggers have snatched away a truck loaded with 16 cattle from cattle traders at Manik Mia Avenue in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

The hijackers also beat up four cattle traders. Injured traders were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

DMCH police outpost In-Charge Mozammel Haque said the traders were heading towards Merul Badda of the city for selling the cattle around 12:30am Saturday.

"When the truck reached Manik Mia Avenue, a group of miscreants on a pick-up van stopped the truck and snatched away the vehicle along with the cattle.

Later, police rescued the four cattle traders from Merul Badda. The driver of the truck was held and being interrogated at Badda police station.

Robberies on cattle-laden trucks are on the rise ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

On Friday, a truck loaded with 20 cattle was attacked Bogra’s Shahjahanpur area.

In separate incident, a truck carrying 19 head of cattle was raided by robbers in the Mirerbazar area of Gazipur on Thursday morning.
