A Bangladeshi national has been killed and four others sustained bullet injuries as members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire on them at bordering Paschim Ram Krishnapur village in Jaypurhat Sadar upazila.
Tozammel Haque, chairman of Dholahar union parishad, said the BSF members chased two children while they were catching fish in a pond near 276/7 border pillar at the village.
As the villagers protested the incident, the BSF members entered the village around 12:30pm Friday and opened fire on them that left five people injured.
The injured were rushed to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital from where one Sayem was shifted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 4:30pm.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdur Razzak Tarafdar, commanding officer of BGB battalion 3, confirming the incident said a BGB official was sent to the spot.
