Pvt uni owners thank PM for VAT withdrawal

The owners of private universities have thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for withdrawal of the 7.5% VAT slapped on tuition fees.

Association Of Non-Government Universities Of Bangladesh issued a press release on Monday evening, welcoming the government's decision.

The press note stated that the decision would remain as a milestone in line with the prime minister's effort to develop the education in the country.

The association also called upon the students to join their classes.

Earlier in the day, in face of massive protest, the government withdrew the VAT imposed on tuition fees on private universities, medical and engineering colleges.

The development came following the prime minister's direction in the morning.
