Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the highways three days before and after the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to keep the roads free from traffic congestion, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
Quader said this to the journalists after inaugurating two bridges in Shahidnagar and Jinglatoli areas under Daudkandi upazila in Comilla on Saturday.
"No heavy vehicles, except those carrying garment and decomposable goods, will be allowed to ply on the highways during that period," he said.
The minister also asked the local law enforcers and officials of concerned agencies to ensure hassle free journey of travelers.
He also urged the garment factory owners to declare holidays in their organisations in phases to ease the pressure of traffic on the highways during the Eid festival.
