Six killed in road accidents

At least six people were killed in road accidents in Sirajganj,  Bhola and Comilla districts yesterday.

Our Sirajganj correspondent reported that three people were killed and 20 others injured in an  accident in Patdhari area under Salanga upazila.

The deceased were Abdullah, 28, son of Abul Sarker of Salanga, Asadul, 35, son of Sukur Ali and college teacher Rafiqul Islam, 45.

Abdul Qader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hatikumrul Highway police station, said a Bogra-bound bus ran over a rickshaw-van and then plunged into roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering around 4:15pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and 20 others injured.

According to our Bhola correspondent’s reports, an old man was killed in a road accident on Shashivushon Bazar area under Charfassion upazila. The victim was Altaf Hossion, 60, son of Jabbar Hossion of Rasulpur Union under the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Shashivushon police station Samsul Arifin said that an auto-rickshaw hit Altaf from behind leaving him to death.

On the other hand, a college student was killed in a road accident near Bhola Govt College area in Sadar upazila. The deceased was Amanulla Jisan, 22, student of Bhola Govt. College.

In Comilla, a labour was killed in a road accident at Noapara on the Dhaka-Comilla highway under Chauddagram upazila, said our correspondent. The deceased Oliullah, 43, was son of Abu Taher resident of Purba Kasipur village of the upazila.
