Over 200 workers fell sick after taking food at a garment factory in Nurbagh Telirchala under Kaliakoir upazila yesterday night.
Quoting factory sources, Mouchak Highway outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector Syed Azharul Islam said that the workers of Karim Textiles Mills Limited, a sister concern of Purbani Group, fell sick after eating the food around 8pm.
Many of the workers were admitted to hospitals in Gazipur, Mouchak, Shafipur and Konabari with complaints of frequent vomiting and diarrhoea.
The sick toll might reach 300 as a total of 500 workers had been working in the night shift, the SI added.
Affected workers alleged that the food, which included one egg and one patties for each worker, was inedible.
