Five people were killed and more than 50 others injured in a road accident at Khalkula on Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway in Tarash upazila on Tuesday night.
Two of the deceased were identified as Badsha, 38, a resident of Farid Pangashi village in Shahajadpur upazila and Atab Ali, 35, son of Abdur Rashid, hailing from Vadrakole village in Ullapara upazila.
When the Rajshahi-bound bus of ‘Desh Travels’ collided head-on with a bus of ‘Bhai-Bandhu Paribahan’ a truck coming from behind the ‘Desh Travels’ bus hit the two vehicles around 10:15pm, leaving four people dead and more than 50 others injured, said Abdul Quader Zilani, Officer-in-Charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.
The injured were whisked off to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital where a man succumbed to his injuries around 12:30am.
On information, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Billal Hossain, Additional Police Super Jiaul Hasan Talukdar visited Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
