Teachers condemn Muhith’s comment on demo

The Pro-Awami League teachers’ body at Chittagong University (CU) have condemned Finance Minister AMA Muhith’s comments against their ongoing demonstration demanding review the eight national pay scales.

Chittagong University Teachers Association (CUTA) held a protest rally at Bangabandhu Chattar in front of the CUTA office around 11am Wednesday.

They teachers threatened to launch movement demanding the resignation of the minister if he does not withdraw his remarks as early as possible.

Criticising the minister speech, the teachers said the minister made the indecent comments against the university teachers without having a proper idea about the movement.

They said his statement has humiliated the teachers of the whole nation.

“Corruption is related with the bureaucracy and without reformation the bureaucracy system the minister questioned the promotion process of the teachers while it was really matter of grief,” the speakers said.

CUTA’s President Professor Dr Abul Mansur presided over the rally while CUTA’s general secretary Professor Dr Khasrul Alam Quddusi, Prof Dr Arun Kumar Deb, Prof Dr Jinobodhi Bikkhu, Prof Benu Kumar Dey, Prof Selina Akhtar addressed the rally.

Meanwhile, CUET Teachers Association’s General Secretary Professor Sudip Kumar Pal said the minister’s comment is totally unacceptable.

On Tuesday, the finance minister said: “Despite being the most educated people in the country, they are demonstrating due to their lack of knowledge.”

He told reporters that they were protesting the new pay scale without knowing report says.
