Private bus service operators will start selling tickets in advance on Friday, September 11 to make life easier for people who travel to their out-of-Dhaka village homes for spending Eid-ul-Azha vacations.
Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the country, is likely to be celebrated on September 25, subject to the moon sighting.
Ramesh Chandra Ghosh, acting president of Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners Association, said: “Advance tickets for September 16 to 24 will start from Friday morning.”
“The president and the secretary of the association are currently at abroad, so a formal meeting could not be arranged. However, we have sent letters to the private bus owners to start selling advance tickets from September 11,” he said.
Ramesh Chandra said usually more than 30 lakh people leave Dhaka on roadways on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha every year.
Both Bangladesh Railways and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation will start selling advance tickets for holidaymakers from September 15.
“One person can purchase up to four tickets, but the tickets will not be refunded,” said Railway Minister Mujibul Haque.
Advance train tickets will be sold from September 15 to 19 and the return tickets will be sold from September 23 to 27.
The tickets for September 21, 22, 23 and 24 will be sold on September 16,17,18 and 18 respectively.
