Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam has said the government has no plan to scrap the contractual appointment system in government services.
“The government appoints competent retired military, civil officials and especially competent persons from the private sector as there is a lack of manpower in the specialised posts and technical expertise,”he told the Parliament Tuesday.
Answering to another query, the minister said 42 officials had been sent to forced retirement during the BNP-led government's tenure, compared to only five during the incumbent government.
Currently there are four secretaries working for the Public Administration Ministry, as well as 108 joint secretaries, 186 deputy secretaries and three deputy commissioners, Syed Ashraf said while answering a separate query.
“Promotion and posting without gender bias is a regular routine work. As of September 1 this year, 41 women officials are OSD [officer on special duty] for different reasons,” he said.
The minister added that since January 2014, 27 officials have been promoted as secretary while 30 secretaries have retired.
