The Janmashtami, birth festival of Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu, was celebrated across the country yesterday with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.
In Noakhali
Our correspondent reported that a procession was brought out on the occasion from the ISCKON Temple at Datterhat under Sadar upazila around 10am. Anupam Barua, Additional Deputy Magistrate, Eliash Sharif, Superintendent of Police led the programme.
Later, a discussion was held where the speakers expressed their greetings to all citizens of the country.
Different cultural, social and religious organizations joined the programme.
In Rajshahi
Janmashtami Celebration Parishad brought out a jubilant procession Hanumanjir Akhra Mondir as part of the celebration in the city and different parts of the district with due festivity and enthusiasm.
The procession passed through different important roads in the city including Alupatti, Kumarpara, Shaheb Bazar, Hossaingonj and Hatemkhan road and terminated at the same venue at noon, reports BSS.
The day’s programmes also included worship of Lord Krishna, Geeta Jagna, Kirtan, discussions and peace processions.
President of Janmashtami Celebration Parishad Alok Kumar Das and General Secretary Tapan Kumar Sen attended the rally, among others.
Addressing a street-corner meeting at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point, the speakers called for following the ideals and teachings of Lord Krishna to maintain peace, harmony and stability in society.
The speakers say Bangladesh is an instance of communal harmony where people of all the religions have been observing their respective religious festivals freely for long.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University authority celebrated the Janmashtami in its campus in a befitting manner.
Highlighting the significance of Janmashtami the authority organized a discussion meeting with Prof Nikhil Chandra Biswas, President of Central Puja Udjapan Parishad, in the chair.
In Inarayanganj
Our correspondent said that the district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad brought out a colorful procession from Deobhog Lakhinarayan Akhra in the city around10am.
Hundreds of Hindu devotees both male, female and children joined the programee from different temples carrying banners, festoons and placards containing with the portrait of Lord Krishna, Radha, his father Basudev, mother Jasodha and tyrant king Kangsha.
The programme was inaugurated by the law maker of Narayanganj-4 AKM Shamim Osman as the chief guest where Deputy Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia, Superintendent of Police Dr Khandokar Mohiduddin, President of Naranayanganj district puja udjapan parishad Shankar Saha were present.
In Barisal
The day’s programme began with bringing out a colorful traditional Janmastami procession from Dharmarakkhini Sava in Kalibari Road area of the city around 10 AM, reports our correspondent.
Advocate Talukdar Md Yunus, AL lawmaker, inaugurated the procession as the chief guest while Rakhal Chandra Dey, president of Dharma Rakkhini Sava, presided over the inaugural function.
Among others Shoibal Kanti Chowdhury, outgoing commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police, Dr Bhaskar Saha, Principal of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, Durlov Provu, of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Bijitananda Moharaj, of Ramakrishna Mission, Narayan Chandra, Mrinal Kanti Das, Manik Mukharjee, community leaders, addressed the function.
The day was also celebrated in many other other districts including Kurigramme, Gaibandha, Joypurhat, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj and Bagerhat.
