Two killed in Rajbari 'gunfight'

Two accused in a robbery case have been killed in a "gunfight" with police at Pangsha of Rajbari district.

Five policemen including Pangsha police station OC were injured in the incident.

The deceased are Kamal Hossain, 47, and Omar Khan, 35. Of them, Kamal was accused in several cases including former Pangsha OC Mizanur murder.

Pangsha Model police station Sub-Inspector Hasina Begum said police conducted a raid an orchard along with Kamal and Omar, who were arrested in a robbery case, to recover arms around 3:15am Friday.

"Sensing the presence of police, robbers opened fire forcing the law enforcers to fire back. Kamal and Omar received bullet wounds during the gunfight," she said.

They were taken to Rajabri sadar hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead.

She said police recovered three guns and five rounds of bullets from the spot.
