A suspected forest bandit has been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion in Dorjaar Khal area of Sharankhola Range in Sundarbans.
Deceased is Khalil, 30, was the second-in command of Monir Bahini and a resident of Patharghata.
RAB 8 Captain Farid said: “Acting on a tip-off, a special team conducted a drive in the area around 5am Monday. Noticing the law enforcers, the bandits opened fire at them.”
In retaliation, RAB members fired back that triggered a “gunfight.” Later, Khalil was found dead.
He said: “Twelve firearms, 114 rounds of bullets, 30 bullet shells, six knives, two mobile phones and three SIM cards were recovered from the spot.”
Sharankhola Range OC Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
