A pot full of 200-year-old coins was recovered from an ancient temple in a village of Akhaura upazila of the district yesterday.
Sources said the workers found 486 coins inside the buried pot around 11am at Durga temple of Chowdhury Bari of Ganganagar village in Mogra union while they were working.
Then, Ganganagar Chowdhury Bari temple managing committee general secretary Sumon Shaha informed the matter to police.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the coins, said Akhaura police station Officer-in-Charge Mofiz Uddin Bhuiyan.
The coins contain image of British Queen Elizabeth-I were from 1804, 1814 and 1836 AD.
The coins would be handed over to archeology department soon, the OC said.
