Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said the government is pledge-bound to preserve fish resources.
“Though there are laws, the government does not want to apply those strictly on the fishermen,” he said as the chief guest at a function to distribute identity cards among more than 500 fishermen of sadar upazila in Sadar Upazila Auditorium.
The government is giving vulnerable group feeding (VGF) assistance to fishermen during the period when the catch of hilsa fish is prohibited. He urged the fishermen to help the government make its hilsa preservation programme a success.
