The Shipping Ministry has formed a committee which would make a report, suggesting the replacement or eviction of 30 religious establishments on different riverbanks in the capital.
The 17-member committee will be headed by Additional Secretary Nasir Arif Mahmud, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan Wednesday told the reporters after holding a meeting with the religious leaders and authorities concerned.
The minister said: “According to a primary survey, 30 religious outlets have been set up on the banks of different rivers in Dhaka. Of those, some were build out of people's authentic religious sentiment while vested quarters set some up for protecting their interests.
“The committee has been asked to verify the reason behind the establishments. Acting on the report, the authorities will replace some of the structures while evict the others.”
