Asian Tourism fair begins tomorrow

A three-day Asian Tourism Fair begins at Bashundhara International Convention City in the capital tomorrow. 

Monthly magazine titled “Parjatan Bichitra” is going to organise the fair to promote tourism in Bangladesh.

Mohiuddin Helal, editor of the monthly “Parjatan Bichitra” and also chief organiser of the fair, came up with the disclosure at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the capital yesterday.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, as chief guest, is expected to inaugurate the fair at 11am.

“As we want to promote Bangladesh as a tourism hub of Asia by arranging combined promotional activities, the fair will be able to play a vital role in strengthening networking mechanisms with the industry partners of other Asian countries,” said Mohiuddin Helal.

The fair will remain open for the visitors from 10am to 9pm with per person entry fee of Tk20.

Around 120 stalls of various tour operators, travel agents, airlines, hotels and other service providers from both private and public sectors from eight Asian countries will join the fair.

Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Thailand, Philippines and Uzbekistan will showcase their best offers and packages for different tourism destinations.

During the fair, there will be a number of diversified activities to promote tourism industry in Bangladesh including youth tourism skill competition, seminar on impact of sustainable tourism, community cultural program, children’s art competition on theme of “Beautiful Bangladesh” etc.

Among others, Aparup Chowdhury, chairman of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) and Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir, chief executive officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) attended the press conference.

Welcoming the initiative, Aparup Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh has huge scope to attract the global tourists by regular promotional campaigns.”

“South Asian countries in particular Bangladesh have all the elements that can attract global tourists. Now we need Public-Private joint efforts to move forward for achieving the common goal,” said Akhtaruzzaman Khan Kabir.
