Seminar on Environmental Waste held at IUB

A seminar on “Environmental Waste and Processing with Novel Materials” was held at the Department of Environmental Science under the School of Environmental Science and Management at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on August 23 at their respective campus in Bashundhara.

The keynote speaker of the seminar was Dr Rabiul Awual, a senior scientist at Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Japan. Dr Awual explained synthesis and characterisation of different functionalised nanomaterials and the efficiency of those materials in removing varieties of environmental contaminants such as cesium, selenium, cobalt etc.

He also talked about the different aspects of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, including possibilities of recovery from radioactive cesium in the nuclear liquid waste. His seminar was particularly important for the participants to learn about future precautions as Bangladesh government is on the way of implementing a nuclear power plant in Ruppur, Pabna.

The seminar was followed by a lively question-answer session. Members of faculty and management and a good number of students attended the seminar.
