Update : 25 Aug 2015, 12:09 PM

The government of United Kingdom will provide three million pounds donation to help flood-affected people in Bangladesh.

The visiting UK Minister of State for International Development Desmond Swayne made the announcement at a press conference at the British High Commission Staff Club in the capital.

"I am pleased to be announcing today [Tuesday] up to £3 million of funding to help those most affected by the recent floods in Bangladesh," he said.

Desmond said the UK support to the World Food Programme and other trusted partners will bring much needed relief to more than 100,000 people in the south east affected by cyclone Komen and monsoon flooding.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Gibson and DFID Country head Sarah Cooke, among others, were also present on the occasion.

During his stay, he visited UK funded projects in Dhaka and Kurigram to see how Britain's support has been transforming lives of some of the poorest people in Bangladesh.

He also met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Foreign Minister Mahmood Ali and Founder and Chairman of BRAC Sir Fazle Hosan Abed.

Swayne came here Sunday on a three-day visit to witness UK-funded projects in Dhaka and outside Dhaka.
