A Sylhet court yesterday accepted the charge sheet filed against 13 people for the murder of Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, whose death by beating caused public outrage after the video of the incident was spread on the internet.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate 1 Shahedul Karim also issued arrest warrants against three fugitive accused men and ordered that their assets be frozen, the court’s General Registrar SI Foyez told our correspondent in Sylhet.
Public Prosecutor Misbah Uddin Siraj said three of the accused – Kamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Alam and Pavel Islam – have been shown fugitives in the case.
On August 16, Investigation Officer Suranjit Talukdar, who is an inspector of the Detective Branch, submitted the charge sheet against 13 people, naming Kamrul as the main accused. Kamrul is currently being held under police custody in Saudi Arabia following his capture there.
The other accused are: Muhith Alam, 32; his brother Shamim Alam, 20; Pavel Islam, 18; Ali Haider, 34; Moyna Miah alias Boro Moyna, 45; Nur Ahmed alias Nur Miah, 20; Dulal Ahmed, 30; Ayaz Ali, 45; Taz Uddin Badal, 28; Firoze Miah, 50; Asmat Ali, 42; and Ruhul Amin, 25.
All of the charge-sheeted suspects – with the exceptions of Badal, Ruhul Amin and the three fugitives – have already submitted confessional statements under section 164 of the penal code.
On July 8, the ill-fated 13-year-old Rajon was tortured to death by a group of people at Kumargaon on the outskirts of Sylhet city.
Charge sheet in Rakib killing case today
The charge sheet of the sensational Rakib murder case will be placed before a local court today, sources in the police force told our correspondent in Khulna.
Sadar police station OC Sukumar Bishwas said: “Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nibas Chandra Maji will brief journalists about the headway of Rakib murder case in his office around 11am on Tuesday and then its charge sheet will be submitted before court.”
When contacted, Investigation Officer and Sadar police station SI Kazi Mostaque Ahmed said the investigation is completed and three people – Md Sharif, his mother Beauty and Mintu Miah – have been named in the charge sheet.
Earlier, all of them gave confessional statement before court in the murder. “Besides, three eyewitnesses gave description of the incident before a court. So, there is no loopholes in the case,” the IO added.
On August 3, 12-year-old Md Rakibul Islam was viciously killed when the three accused killed the boy by pumping air through his rectum.
