The motorcade of Rajbari 1 constituency MP Kazi Keramat Ali has been attacked in Peyarpur area of Faridpur sadar.
At least 12 people were injured in the attack. They were given primary treatment at local hospital.
The lawmaker was on way to offer prayers at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's mazar in Gopalganj when the motorcade came under attack around 10am Saturday.
Witnesses said locals put blocked bypass road in Peyarpur area of Faridpur sadar protesting a road accident that left a van puller injured.
The motorcade of the two MP got stranded because of the blockade. Then, the members of the motorcade locked in altercation with the local people. At one stage of altercation, locals vandalised two buses of the motorcade.
Being informed, Kotwali police rushed to the spot and bring the situation under control.
Kotwali police station OC (investigation) Nazimuddin Ahmed said the local administration provided two new buses for the motorcade.
He said two persons were held from the spot.
