India extends Taslima’s visa

Update : 22 Aug 2015, 04:04 AM

Indian government has extended exiled Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen’s visa for a year.

The decision has been taken following an intervention of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh as Taslima has been requesting the Indian government to further extend her visa.

The writer’s visa was granted for a year with effect from July 23, The Hindu cited a Home Ministry official of India.

Nasreen fled Bangladesh in 1994 and spent the next 10 years in exile in the West. She relocated to Kolkata, India, in 2004, where she lived until 2007. After renewed unrest broke out, she left for the West again in 2008. She currently resides in New Delhi.

Taslima, a citizen of Sweden, has been getting Indian visa on a continuous basis since 2004. She has also stayed in the US and Europe in the last two decades.
