An extremist has been killed in a gunfight with Rab in Tangail on Friday dawn.
The deceased is identified as Mujibur Rahman Sheikh, 40.
ASP Mohiuddin Faruki, commander of Crime Prevention Company-3 of Rab, said two rival groups of extremist outfit, called Omar Group and Sheikh Group, locked in fierce gunfight at Shyamarghat area under Sadar Upazila in the district around 5am.
On information, the Rab rushed to the spot.
Sensing the presence of Rab, the extremists fired shots targeting the Rab team.
A gunfight with Rab ensued as Rab fired in retaliation.
After the extremists were dispersed, the locals later informed Rab, a bullet hit body lying in the spot.
Rab rescued him and took to Tangail Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared him death.
The elite force also recovered one foreign made pistol, two rounds of bullet and a magazine from the spot.
ASP Faruki said the deceased Mujibur was the leader of Sheikh Group of Sarbahara Party.
There are at least 10 cases filed against him for involvements in various crimes including murders, extortion.
