A former Jubo League leader has been killed in a "gunfight" with Detective Branch (DB) of police in South Salna area in Gazipur. Deceased Saidul Islam, 35, was the former president of Jubo League's ward no 97 in Dhaka's Badda area. He was the son of late Joimot Ali of South Badda.

A man has died as a tiger statue at Sonargaon intersection in the city's Kawran Bazar area collapsed on him early Friday. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained.
Boat capsize kills 2 siblings in Narail
Two siblings have been killed as a boat capsized in Rameshorpur lake under sadar upazila in Narail. The deceased are Antora, 10, and Shaon, 5, children of Ebaidul of Rameshorpur village. Locals said Ebaidul went on a cruise with his family members, children and relatives around 5pm Thursday. The boat capsized due to sudden heavy rain and strong wind around 6pm.

North Korea orders troops on war footing
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered his frontline troops to be on a war footing, state media says, after an exchange of fire with the South across their heavily fortified border. The KCNA report said Mr Kim declared a "semi-state of war" at an emergency meeting late Thursday.
Israel launches strikes into Syria after rocket attack
Rockets hit an Israeli village near the Lebanese border on Thursday and Israel struck back in the Syrian Golan Heights, saying the rare salvo had been launched there by an Iranian-backed Palestinian militant group. The group, Islamic Jihad, denied the Israeli allegation. It had previously threatened reprisals should one of its activists in Israeli detention, Mohammed Allan, die of a hunger strike. Allan ended the fast on Wednesday after an Israeli court intervened.
