Three ward councillors of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) have been elected the corporation’s panel mayors through a secret voting yesterday.
The elected panel mayors are Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni from ward 20, Jobaira Nargis Khan from reserved ward 2, and Nisar Uddin Ahmed Manju from ward 10.
The voting was held at KB Abdus Sattar Auditorium in Nagar Bhaban. Councillors from 54 wards cast their votes from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, also the general secretary of Awami League Chittagong unit, announced the names of the winners.
Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni received 39 votes while Jobaira Nargis Khan and Nisar Uddin Ahmed Manju received 31 and 30 votes respectively. Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni was elected panel mayor during the tenure of immediate past mayor M Manjur Alam.
According to the City Corporation Act, the councillors have to choose two male councillors and a female councillor as panel mayors through either agreement or secret voting.
