Brac Bank teams up with EC for NID verification

Brac Bank has signed an MoU with the Election Commission on National ID Card verification, the bank said in a statement yesterday.

Under the agreement, the Election Commission will provide National ID Card verification services for the bank’s customers. Brac is the first commercial bank to enter such a deal.

The bank’s Deputy Managing Director Md Mamdudur Rashid and EC Director Md Mohsin Ali signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations at a city hotel.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, EC Secretary Sirajul Islam, World Bank Country Director Johannes Zutt and Director General of the EC’s National Identity Registration Wing Brig Gen Sultanuzzaman Md Salehuddin were present at the signing ceremony. 

Brac Bank will be able to verify the National IDs of all its customers for transparency and accountability in banking services.

It will help prevent identity frauds and ensure the authenticity of Know Your Customer forms.

The service will also facilitate smooth operations of mobile banking services as bKash will also avail the verification services through the bank.
