Bangladeshi killed in South Africa

Update : 20 Aug 2015, 11:34 AM

A Bangladeshi national has been shot and hacked to death by miscreants at Johannesburg in South Africa early Wednesday.

Deceased Alauddin Jewel, 30, is the son of Khaja Mainuddin of Noakhali's Senbagh upazila. Jewel had been living in South Africa since 2004.

Victim's father Khaja Mainuddin told the Dhaka Tribune that Jewel had started a business with his partner at a market in Johannesburg.

He said: "Jewel's friend Md Kamal informed us over mobile phone that some miscreants entered into their shop breaking the window and tried to snatch money. But when they refused to give the money, the miscreants shot Jewel and his partner and confirmed their death by hacking them indiscriminately."

Being informed, Jewel's friends reached the spot and informed the police. Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital.

He, however, said that he did not know the identity of Jewel's partner.
