PM pays tribute to Pranab’s wife

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday paid tributes to Suvra Mukherjee, wife of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, by placing a wreath at her coffin.

She laid the wreath on the coffin of Suvra Mukherjee at 13 Tal Katra Road residence of Abhijit Mukherjee, the son of Pranab Mukherjee.

Along with the Indian President, Hasina later joined the funeral of Suvra Mukherjee held at Lodi Road Crematorium in the Indian capital.

Earlier, the prime minister went to Rastrapati Bhaban to console the Indian President and his family members.

Hasina stayed there for some time and recalled her long relations with Suvra Mukherjee.

She said Bangladesh has lost a great friend and well-wisher with her demise and prayed for the bereaved family to have the courage and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana, Hasina’s daughter Saima Hossain, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Principal Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad and Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Hasina arrived in the Indian capital to attend the funeral of Suvra Mukharjee by a VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bangladesh High Commissioner to New Delhi Syed Moazzem Ali received the prime minister at the airport.
