40 students injured in Jubo League attack on school

More than 40 students of Bhuyapara High School under Kachua upazila in Chandpur district were injured yesterday as Jubo League activists attacked them.

Sources said some  Jubo League activists went to the school on August 15 and demanded extortion to its headmaster Dulal Chandra Sarker on the occasion of National Mourning Day.

They harassed him physically as he rejected their proposal.

Fazlur Rahman, an assistant teacher of the school went to the spot and rescued the headmaster. He also protested the  Jubo League men.

Later, a number of  Jubo League activists attacked the house of Fazlur Rahaman at night and tortured him.

In the morning, the students organized a protest rally in the school premises while Jubo League activists led by Faruk, Liton and Munir attacked them with local made firearms, leaving 40 injured.

Of the injured, Sujan, Sahaparan, Rakib, Makbul, Milon, Rafi,Popy, Misti, Tania, Sayema and Tanjina Meem were admitted to Upazila Health Complex  in critical condition.

Dr Bijoy Krishna Saha of the health complex, said of the injured, the condition of Sujon was seriously critical.

Najmul Aalm Sawpan, Jubo League convenor of the upazila unit, said they were not involved with the incident.

Contacted, Ibrahim khalil, officer-in-charge of Kachua police station, said a case was filed by the headmaster accusing eight people in connection with the incident.

The police also arrested a youth named Mozammel around 7pm, the OC said.
